Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is only a week away, and we want to take this moment to thank you for your support. At Save Harlem Now!, we are the frontline defenders of Harlem’s irreplaceable built and cultural heritage, and we need your continued support to ensure that this heritage endures.

Just look at what we accomplished with your support and participation this year:

  • Cultural Tours: East Harlem walking tours including the sacred Harlem African Burial Ground; Take the A Train walking tours exploring the architectural similarities of Central Harlem and Bedford-Stuyvesant

  • Black History Month: Langston Hughes Birthday Celebration with spoken word and jazz; a Tribute to Jazz History at Minton's Playhouse

  • Women's History Month: Jane's Walk, celebrating civil and human rights activist Ella Baker, NAACP icon Dr. Hazel N. Dukes, and Harlem Renaissance sculptor Augusta Savage

  • Gene Norman Preservation Awards Gala: Honoring Harlem preservation heroes

  • Malcolm X Plaza Designation: Working with Friends of Malcolm X Plaza, celebrated the re-naming of the 110th Street and Malcolm X Blvd subway stop to Malcolm X Plaza; New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) designation of Malcolm X Plaza

  • Critical Forums: Financial Benefits for Homeowners in Historic Districts and Mayoral Candidates Forum

  • Proactive Prevention: Working with partners and the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to stop the demolition of properties in designated historic districts

With this global day of giving just around the corner, we invite you to support us once again. Our goal this year is to raise $25,000 to bring to life an ambitious calendar of preservation and advocacy work in 2026. Because, while 66% of Greenwich Village and 50% of the Upper East and West Sides are landmarked, less than 20% of Harlem has received the same designation. This means that the heritage of those communities is protected, while Harlem’s heritage is not.

We look forward to your support on Giving Tuesday!
